CBD and Coronavirus: What You Need To Know

This blog post is for educational purposes. We do not make any suggestion that CBD or any other herbal supplement will cure, treat or prevent coronavirus or any other disease. We want to put any myth to rest that CBD can assist with coronavirus in anyway. Any site that makes such claims is preying on the emotions of nervous consumers. We encourage you to visit coronavirus.gov to learn ways to keep you, your family, and your community safe for the latest information and updates.

Over the last decade, the popularity of CBD products has skyrocketed with the newest users being fascinated by its lack of psychoactive effects and possible health benefits.

People are asking what CBD can do in the wake of the Coronavirus outbreak.

Can CBD and Coronavirus mix? Let’s take a closer look.

What is Coronavirus?

According to the World Health Organization, Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses mostly found in animals but can be transmitted to people.

The viruses cause a wide range of illnesses from the common cold to more severe diseases such as SARS that was identified in 2003 and MERS that was first identified in 2012. In humans, the viruses typically cause respiratory infections with flu-like symptoms according to the CDC.

The 2019 novel coronavirus disease (now named COVID-19) is no different. The COVID-19 made the jump from animals to humans late last year with most of the initially infected people being workers and shoppers of a seafood market in the Chinese city of Wuhan.

Unlike the other known Coronaviruses, COVID-19 is spreading faster. By February 9th, the virus had spread to all continents except Antarctica.

The virus has also infected more than 120,000 people around the world and the death toll reaching over 4200 people. In the United States, 480 cases and 24 deaths have been reported in 35 states according to data released by the CDC.

Can CBD Cure Coronavirus?

No. Currently, there is no evidence that CBD products can be used to treat, cure or prevent COVID-19.

COVID-19 Signs and Symptoms

COVID-19, like the other diseases caused by the coronavirus family, affects the human respiratory system.

According to the World Health Organization, the disease’s symptoms are nonspecific and they can range from having no symptoms at all to severe pneumonia and death. Common symptoms include:

· Fatigue

· Fever

· Shortness of breath

· Dry cough

· Sore throat

· Headache

· Pain in muscles

· Pain in joints

Other symptoms include chills, nasal congestion, nausea or vomiting, and diarrhea.

It is also important to note that individuals with the highest risk of developing severe disease and death are those aged above 60 years and those with underlying conditions such as diabetes, cancer, chronic respiratory disease, cardiovascular disease, and hypertension.

These conditions are common in older people which means they need to take extra care when interacting with people who may have come into contact with the virus.

How Can CBD Help With Coronavirus?

There is no evidence suggesting that Cannabidiol(CBD) can be used to cure, treat or prevent coronavirus or the symptoms of coronavirus despite widespread rumors.

Here is what CBD may assist with during a time of panic. (Below are not symptoms of the coronavirus. CBD is not intended to be used for the coronavirus or the symptoms of coronavirus in any way.)

1. Mood Assistance

Public health emergencies are stressful to people and can cause fear, stress, and anxiety. It is even more terrifying to learn that an illness has spread to your state or someone you know is infected.

These feelings of stress, fear, sadness, and uncertainty are normal during such pandemics. Turning to trustworthy sources for news and coronavirus.gov may aid you in your mood stress.

CBD may work by interacting with CB1 and CB2 receptors in the endocannabinoid system (ECS) to alter serotonin signals. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that is associated with your mental health. Not having enough serotonin may cause anxiety.

2. Physical Discomforts

Physical discomforts may be associated with aging. Globally, back pain is the leading cause of disability affecting approximately 540 million people at any given time.

In the United States, 23% of all adults have joint discomfort, another leading cause of disability. It is important that these conditions are attended to by a medical doctor.

During this coronavirus pandemic, you may be required to work from home, reduce interaction with people – which means staying at home or even in some cases, self-quarantine if you suspect that you may be infected or after coming into contact with an infected person.

This may, in turn, restrict your physical activities and could increase your discomfort. One of the recommended ways to reduce back and joint pain is by being physically active. In this situation, you may find you are not having enough exercise.

CBD may have anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties that could help people with structural pain. A 2014 preclinical study examined CBD as a treatment for discomfort. Zatural does not make any claims that CBD will assist pain or discomfort. We only quote studies for educational purposes.

How To Be Safe

There are a few things you can do to reduce the risk of infection. You can do this by reducing bodily contact with others, this includes not shaking hands.

Remember to wash your hands for at least 20 seconds. The health authorities also recommend that you avoid touching your face to reduce the risk of infection.

CBD does not cure, treat or prevent Coronavirus. Ensure you listen to health officials regarding the management of the Coronavirus and all other diseases and visit coronavirus.gov for all current news and facts.
